How to be Successful in creating the habit or craving the reward

Recently, I went to CampDoMore with Chalene Johnson, NY time bestselling author, creator of Turbo Kick, turbo fire, Chalene extreme and more. She is an amazing motivational teacher alongside an amazing fitness professional. She began sharing about setting goals and then sometimes not hitting them, like a weight loss goal.1249753770B5Tb1F

We often hear it takes 21 days to create a habit and I do believe that to be true. In my opinion, if you do something for 30,60,90 days CONSISTENTLY, chances are you will continue and see success. You will have created that healthy habit. People often say, “I love junk food too much” Well, honestly the first few days of giving up or cutting back on junk food or sugar or wheat, whatever you are looking to have less of will be tough. Those first few days are HARD, YES, but then you will notice it gets easier, you crave the unhealthy stuff less and you find yourself sticking to the healthier foods/habits.

Well, Chalene brought in another perspective about craving the reward. I started thinking about that and thought she is on to something. OF course, she is, she is a very successful woman I admire and aspire to be like. So, when she speaks, I take notes and listen to her every word.

So, think about it, when you workout you feel amazing after. There is that time before you start that you do NOT want to work out. You dread putting on your sneakers and workout clothes, you dread going thru the motions for 30-45-60 minutes.  Then you just get up and do it after lots of self talk. Then after, you ALWAYS SAY “I am so glad I just did that, I feel amazing”

What makes you put those shoes on, those clothes on and push play is the REWARD. You stop and think about your food choices by remembering what your stomach feels like after you make that not so healthy choice, so you choose the salad, chicken, veggies, you crave the REWARD.

I also believe you need to focus on your WHY ,your END result, THE REWARD. So, if you are looking to lose weight, you must set a specific attainable goal of 5 lbs, 10 lbs, whatever that goals is for you. Then you must decide WHY or WHAT will get you up 4-6 days/wk to do that workout. What will make you decide to shop the perimeters of the grocery store and buy food items that will go bad in 3-5 days? Is it to be around longer for your kids, to help prevent obesity related diseases later in life, like diabetes and more? Do you have a current illness that you are trying to treat without medicine, but with diet and exercise? What is that reward you crave? What is that life event you are looking to look and feel better for, a wedding, a reunion, a race? Are you looking to feel more energy daily to be able to play with your kids and/or grandkids? What is the REWARD you crave?

So, ask yourself now, today…….WHAT GOAL am I looking to achieve and what is the end result and what REWARD will I crave and set your mind, body, and soul to achieving that over the next 30,60,90 days. Then set a new one and do this all over again.

I would love to hear some of these goals below and follow me on twitter or facebook to keep me posted on the journey. Tell me that you found my blog about craving the reward and being successful and want to tell me about your progress.
